At Andrea Walmsley Counselling, I believe in creating a safe space for open discussions without judgment. My focus is not on labelling or diagnosing but on addressing common life stressors such as relationships or workplace challenges. In our counselling sessions, I aim to help you work towards your life goals.
Navigating a Counselling Session:
In our initial meeting, I strive to understand your life and goals. You have the autonomy to decide the session's focus, and together, we'll explore approaches to assist you. The support you receive encourages trying new strategies, empowering you to make decisions based on discussions about available options.
Building a Connection:
If you feel the connection with me isn't optimal, providing feedback is crucial. Ensuring you benefit the most from sessions might involve seeking a different counsellor to continue your journey. If needed, I will be happy to suggest other counsellors for you to try. Your well-being is my top priority.

Primarily, my clients encompass unique individuals and couples navigating challenges in their relationships. Individuals seeking individual counselling are aged 15 and above, opting for early intervention mental health counselling that prioritises solutions over problems. I am dedicated to understanding the distinctive experiences of each client, addressing a broad spectrum of everyday issues affecting their overall well-being. For those wrestling with the demands of work and home life, I provide support to navigate through mental and physical exhaustion, facilitating the rediscovery of joy and balance.
Individuals who have reached a point of fatigue often report impacts on both personal and professional aspects of their lives, with symptoms such as muscle aches, pains, tension, tightness in the chest, clenched jaws, and nervousness. Common challenges include sleep disturbances and a disinterest in physical intimacy.
For couples seeking counselling, I extend my support to those facing challenges in their relationships. Whether dealing with communication issues, intimacy concerns, or navigating life transitions together, I create a safe and non-judgmental space for couples to explore and strengthen their connection.
My approach involves providing practical tools and strategies for both individuals and couples, empowering them to live life on their terms. Together, we work towards a future filled with hope, peace, capability, motivation, confidence, and a profound sense of worthiness.

In early 2021, during the Covid lockdowns in Western Australia, I found myself reflecting deeply on my life. It became clear to me that a change was necessary before it was too late. Despite being fifty-six years old at the time, an age where many people feel their dreams slipping away, I made the decision to pursue a different path. Teaching had been my profession for thirty-five years, but the thought of going to work filled me with dread. I was burnt out and desperately yearned for something more fulfilling.
A long-standing aspiration of mine had been to become a therapist. However, I had accepted the idea that it was unlikely to happen. I felt I had missed the opportunity. Eventually, though, I realised that it was still within my grasp if I took action. I understood that if I didn't make a change, I would remain stuck in the same unsatisfying situation. With nothing to lose and everything to gain, I pushed aside my doubts and enrolled in the Master of Counselling degree. The course was challenging, but I never once regretted my decision. It felt like the path I was meant to be on, even if some questioned whether I was too old to start something new. After a year, I decided to leave my teaching job and focus entirely on becoming the best counsellor I could be.
As I immersed myself in this new journey, I found support from those around me. Their encouragement fuelled my determination and helped me overcome any lingering burnout. Being able to assist others in their unique stories and witness their growth became a source of deep satisfaction. I realised that we all have the power to make changes in our lives and find fulfilment. That's why I love my work so much.
Whatever difficulties you may be facing, if you're seeking change and need guidance, I'm here to listen with empathy and offer support. Together, we can explore your strengths, resources, and resilience, helping you create the life you truly desire. It takes courage to reach out for help, but it's a step towards regaining hope.
